Getting a test kit

Private drinking water sample test kits can be picked up at the Butler County Health Department, 1619 North Main St, Poplar Bluff, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. There is no appointment needed.

Returning your sample

Once you have taken the sample, bring it back to the health department. Staff forward it to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services laboratory for analysis.

Pending confirmation: turnaround time for results, any fee, and the cutoff time of day for same-day forwarding will be stated here.

Samples we collect ourselves

The department collects bacterial analysis samples of private drinking water for foster care programs and for individuals in special circumstances. Call to find out whether your situation qualifies.

Public water supply

The public water supply program protects water supplies from water-borne disease by providing technical assistance on water treatment, well installation, and related questions.
